A peel at The Quiet Skin starts with a conversation, not a protocol. We read your skin, talk through your goals, and choose the gentlest acid that will actually get you there: a lactic or mandelic Refresh that leaves you fresher within a day with little to no visible flaking, a salicylic Clarify that cuts through congestion and calms breakout-prone skin, or the stronger Brighten blend for melasma, sun damage, and post-acne marks — almost always planned as a short series, spaced about a month apart.

You’ll hear the honest version of downtime before anything touches your skin — some peels walk out the door glowing, others trade a few days of flaking for weeks of visibly brighter skin — and we’ll time your treatment around the calendar so peeling never crashes a big event. What is actually in a peel

“Chemical peel” sounds more dramatic than the thing itself. A peel is an acid solution held on the skin for a controlled time, loosening the bonds between dead surface cells so they shed faster than they would on their own. The skin underneath is newer, more even, and better at absorbing whatever you put on it.

The acids do different jobs, which is why the depth matters more than the name. Glycolic and lactic acids work on the surface — tone, dullness, fine texture; lactic is the gentler of the two and holds water in the skin as it works. Salicylic acid is oil-soluble, so it gets down into a pore rather than sitting on top of it, which is why it’s the one that helps congestion and breakouts.

What you feel during a peel is warmth and some tingling that builds and then settles. What you see afterwards depends entirely on depth.

Choosing your depth

Refresh — $120

The gentlest. Little to no visible flaking. A good first peel and a good maintenance peel, and the right answer far more often than people expect.

Clarify — $135

For congestion and breakouts. Some flaking, usually days two through four.

Brighten — $150

For tone, sun damage and dullness — the one people book after a summer outdoors. The most visible peeling of the three, and the one that needs a week you can plan around.

A Jessner peel is also available for skin that needs a step beyond the three above — a layered blend of lactic and salicylic acids, with the depth controlled by how many layers go on. It is not a menu item you book blind; whether it suits you is decided at your consultation.

A consultation comes before your first peel, always. Not a patch test — a conversation about your skin history, what you’re using at home, and whether the week ahead actually has room for the recovery. Sometimes that conversation ends with a recommendation not to peel at all, and that is a legitimate outcome.

What we don’t offer, and who does

Deeper peels — TCA, VI Peel, phenol, Cosmelan — are not services here. They work at a depth that belongs with a dermatologist or a physician-led practice, with the aftercare and oversight that depth requires.

If that’s genuinely what your skin needs, you’ll be told so and pointed somewhere appropriate, rather than sold three of ours instead. Being clear about the ceiling is part of the job.

Peels work best as a series

One peel is a good result. Three, spaced about a month apart, is a course of treatment — each one working on skin the last one already improved.

Autumn through early spring is the window. A peel brings fresh skin to the surface and fresh skin burns easily, so recovery is far easier to protect when the sun sits low and you’re outdoors less. A series started in September finishes comfortably before the holidays.

How much downtime does a chemical peel have?

It depends on the peel. The Refresh (lactic or mandelic) has little to no visible flaking — you can go straight back to your day. The Clarify (salicylic) often brings light peeling around the chin and nose three or four days in. The Brighten trades two to four days of real peeling for weeks of visibly brighter skin. You’ll hear the honest version before anything touches your skin.

Do you offer TCA, VI, or phenol peels?

No — those are deeper, medical-grade peels that belong in a dermatologist’s office. We work with lactic, mandelic, and salicylic acids and stronger professional blends, including a Jessner peel where the skin calls for it: the gentlest option that actually gets results. If your skin genuinely needs a deeper peel than we offer, we’ll tell you so.

Why is a consultation required before my first peel?

Because every skin reacts differently. We look at your skin, talk through your history and anything you’re using or taking, and choose the strength from there rather than guessing. It protects your skin barrier — which is the whole point of coming here.

How many peels will I need?

The Refresh and Clarify show visible results from a single visit. The Brighten — for melasma, sun damage, and post-acne marks — is almost always planned as a series of three, spaced about a month apart. We’ll map the plan together before the first appointment.

Can I get a peel before a big event?

Yes, with timing. A Refresh can go as close as a few days out. For the Clarify or Brighten, plan at least two weeks ahead so any peeling is long finished. Tell us the date and we’ll work backward from it.
