Chemical peel aftercare

Precautions

1. Wait 12 hours before you cleanse your skin.
2. No hot water on your face. Keep showers cool.
3. Skip saunas, steam rooms, and hot tubs for 48 hours.
4. Avoid heavy sweating (workouts, running) for 48 hours.
5. No scrubs, washcloths, or exfoliating tools on the treated area.
6. Pause retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, and astringents for a week or two, depending on your skin. Ask us if you are unsure when yours is ready.
7. Wait seven days after your peel before waxing or dermaplaning the same area.
8. Please don't pick or peel the flaking skin. Let it shed on its own.

Morning

1. Cleanse gently with fingertips (no cloth). Rinse cool, pat dry.
2. Apply your post-peel serum. Let it absorb.
3. Follow with a light layer of post-peel balm on the treated area.
4. Finish with SPF 30+ broad spectrum. Sun protection matters more now than any other time.

Evening

1. Cleanse gently, same as morning.
2. Apply your post-peel serum. Let it absorb.
3. Follow with post-peel balm on the treated area.

After a Jessner peel

1. Everything above applies to a Jessner peel too, including cool water, 48 hours without heavy sweating, and no picking.
2. Expect redness and tightness at first, then real, visible peeling for several days.
3. Let it shed on its own, even where it peels in sheets.
4. Keep your skin out of direct sun while it is peeling, and wear SPF 30+ every morning.

When to call us

Most of what happens after a treatment is normal. Call or text (920) 214-5867 if you see any of the following. If it feels urgent, contact your doctor or urgent care.

• Blistering, or skin that weeps or crusts.
• Redness that spreads rather than settles after the first few days.
• Burning or stinging that does not ease once the skin has cooled.
• Swelling beyond the treated area.
• Deep cracking.
• A reaction that is still getting worse past day five.
• Hives, a rash, or itching beyond mild tightness. This can be a reaction to an ingredient in the peel.
• Swelling of the lips, eyelids or face.
• Any sign of infection (swelling, heat, or pus).
• Trouble breathing, or swelling of the lips or throat: call 911.
